Meet the Atkinson family!

Meet the Atkinson family!

Be First!

Residents of 26 Springhill Rd for the past 20 years, the Atkinson family has become part of the MX40 “furniture”, so to speak! We chatted to Alban about his time in the suburb, what his family is up to, his role on the committee, and local venues that he can highly recommend to others.

Clockwise from left: Helen, Dale, Brett and Alban

Helen and I have been married for 32 years now and have two grown up sons

Helen has a background in HR and Labour Law and worked for the Urban Foundation for many years. After 1994, the separate departments became independent NGOs – Helen continues to consult to many of them, and is passionate about making a difference.

Our eldest son, Brett, attended St Peters Prep and St Peters High School, before graduating from Rhodes with a Post Graduate Degree in Education. He is currently teaching in Beijing!

Dale also attended St Peters Prep but chose to spend his High School years at Michaelhouse in the KZN Midlands. He studied further at UCT, worked on a Russian superyacht for two years, and has now become the 4th generation to join the INCE family business!

Our family has always been mad about dogs

We are eagerly awaiting 3 Golden Retriever puppies, and wondering if our lives (and house) will ever be the same again!

Our gardener, Michael Nyambose, is undoubtedly the fifth member of the Atkinson family

He has worked for us since we moved into 26 Springhill Rd, and worked for the previous residents before then. He is a key family member and active participant in our community!

We are proud ambassadors of MX40 and think we are extremely privileged to live in such a magnificent suburb

It really is a refuge in what is essentially a busy and on-the go city. Our property was the original farmhouse and consists of two acres of beautiful land – we love spending time at home! The suburb has a comparatively low crime rate, has an active and engaged committee, and has many families running, walking and cycling in the afternoons. It’s a wonderful place to live and raise children.

I have served on the MX40 Committee for the past two years

My role involves Communications and Community Building.

We do have a few family local stores that have become firm favourites over the year.

Our top three restaurants would include Tashas (Morningside Shopping Centre), Eatalian (Parkmore) and Café Del Sol Botanica (Bryanston Shopping Centre). We are also frequent visitors of the Morningside Shopping Centre, Benmore Shopping Centre, Parkmore Spar and Parkmore MICA.

I love Halloween in MX40

Seeing the kids Trick or Treating and raising money for charity never gets old – we look forward to it each year!

We’d love local residents to pop in and say HI

We mean that. Feel free to pop by, send us a text on 083 694 9976 or drop me an email:
